The 2nd Annual Dominican Film Festival in New York announces it highly anticipated line-up for this year’s film festival, running from June 26 – 30 at the Alumni Auditorium at the Columbia University Medical Center in Washington Heights.
The 2013 festival lineup will feature more than 20 films from the Dominican Republic made by Dominican filmmakers that will take moviegoers on a spectacular cinematographic journey.
The Dominican Film Festival will also host a series of red carpet premieres, industry panels, and exclusive parties as part of the 5-day event.
On Wednesday, June 26, 2013 we will kick off the festival with an Opening Night Red Carpet Event for the New York City premiere of El Rey de Najayo directed by Fernando Beaz, starring Manny Perez and Luz Garcia. The director and talent will be on hand for Q&A, followed by an after party celebration at El Morocco Night Club.
On Sunday, June 30, 2013 Elliot Loves the first Dominican-American gay film will close out the festival with the film’s director Gary Terracino and main cast set to appear for Q&A, followed by an after party at El Morocco Night Club.
Also in the festival’s feature lineup are Jaque Mate (Jose Maria Cabral), La hija natural (Letecia Tonos), La lucha de Ana (Bladimir Abud), Lotoman 2.0 (Archie López), Pelotero (Ross Finkel, Trevor Martin, Jon Paley), El Hoyo del diablo (Francis Disla Ferreira), Reguge from the Storm (Elias Acosta), A ritmo de fe (José Gómez), Parece una carreta de esa’ que no la’ para nilo’ bueye’ (Nelson Carlos de los Santos Arias) and Pimp Bullies (Alfonso Rodriguez).
The festival’s Short Film / Big Stories program will present a selection of the best shorts films made by emerging Dominican filmmakers, which include Kaylien, the directorial debut of the Dominican actress Zoe Saldaña and The Cure, a Cannes Film Festival official selection, by Christopher James Lopez. Not to mention De espalda al mar (Armando Larrari), Del otro lado (Yanillys Pérez), El seno de la Esperaza (Freddy Vargas), La Concha (Angélica Noboa Pagán), Un pacto con la soledad (Rodney Llavarias), and To Kill a Roach (Laura Gómez).
The festival is also announcing a pre-festival screening of 3 al Rescate, directed by Jorge Morillo, at the United Palace on June 22nd at 1pm. The event will be free for children and families.
