My First Sofar Sounds Experience…

BY Led Black (@Led_Black)

My first Sofar Sounds experience was everything I expected and more. First of all is the whole secrecy thing. You don’t know the venue until a day before the event when you get a much anticipated email divulging your destination. But even then you still don’t know who will be performing – that info is kept secret until the moment you arrive at said destination.

Best of all, Sofar Sounds is happening in 265 cities across the globe and even better – Sofar Sounds is now doing its thing right here in Washington Heights. The venue for my first, but definitely not my last, Sofar Sounds shindig was Our Saviour’s Atonement Lutheran Church (178 Bennett Ave). Our lineup for the evening was Arms, Kéren and Gracie & Rachel. To be truthful I had never heard of any of these artists before but I left that night a fan of all 3 acts as well as a believer in the power of Sofar Sounds. Did I mention that the event was BYOB? Yes you heard that correctly, I was imbibing a splendid pinot noir while being introduced to 3 super talented acts in a church.

Sofar Sounds is all about that special and sacred connection between the artist and the audience. No nonsense, no bullshit, no filter. Artistry without artifice – it doesn’t get much better than that
