But first, re-election for Councilmember Ydanis Rodríguez
Story and videos by Sherry Mazzocchi
This coming Sun., Apr. 21st, Councilmember Ydanis Rodríguez will give a State of Northern Manhattan address at 2:30 pm at Yeshiva University. The Manhattan Times spoke to Rodríguez ahead of the event.
Councilmember Rodríguez said education, economic development and housing are the key elements of a sweeping new plan he plans to unveil at his address.
“We have to move in a direction where northern Manhattan should have more economic development,” he said. “We will have a blueprint for the next 30 years.”
He said economic development is long overdue uptown and northern Manhattan has not received its share of major capital investments.
His plan, he said, examines how the area can claim its share.
When asked about the viability of a long-term plan when he is likely to be in office only a few years, he referred to Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s PlaNYC 2030.
“Our community is not included in the 2030 plan,” he said.
His proposals will be based on community feedback.
He plans on working with Community Board 12 and local community-based organizations to create a plan for all of northern Manhattan.
