EL LINA – DOWN HOME DOMINICAN GOODNESS

BY Led Black

El Lina is good money; you really can’t go wrong with this place.  Located on 500 West 207th Street and sandwiched between a barber shop and a seafood restaurant named El Tina, you might just walk right pass this establishment.  That would be a mistake.  El Lina does not do Nouvo, Fusion or Pan-Latin.  What it does and does well is down home Dominican food.  Even though there are plenty of Dominican restaurants in the neighborhood, El Lina is by far one of the best.  On this particular day, I was in a hurry so I ordered a lunch portion of the beef stew (carne de res guisada) with black beans and rice (moro de habichuelas negra).  I also had a side of bread with mojito and washed it all down with an ice cold Presidente – all that for $8.50.  I am salivating just writing about it.  My favorites on the menu are the baked shrimp (camarones al horno) and the pepper steak (bistec salteado).  By the way, they also make the best café con leche in town – no lie.

I love the heaping serving on that dish. What is seating like there? Would it easily accommodate 20 bumrushers? My husband and I often dare Inwood Tweeple to meet up at local restos at the very last minute. We just might have to hit this spot up.

20 people is probably the max that this place could hold. The biggest table there I think seats about 6 but you can’t beat the food and prices.
