Mayra Cruz, a teacher from P.S. 115, attended the public safety meeting held this past Thurs., Sept. 1st at the Isabella Geriatric Center in Washington Heights. All throughout, she held the program from Derek David Villa’s funeral.
Villa, 18, was a student at P.S. 115, where Cruz teaches.
This past Saturday, August 27th, Villa was stabbed and killed, allegedly by a 14 year-old now in police custody.
The incident happened in front of Villa’s apartment building, just a few blocks from the school.
During the evening’s public safety meeting, hosted by Assemblyman Guillermo Linares and Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez, and attended by the new Commanding Officer of the 34th Precinct, Deputy Inspector Barry Buzzetti, each poke at length about safety concerns.
