My mom, a native of the Dominican Republic, has been a citizen of this country since 1989. She has not missed an election since then. Rain or shine, sun or snow, national election or local; my mom is there voting for her choice of candidates. I am not saying she is a paragon of democratic values, she keeps insisting that I vote for her candidates but if a 73-year old woman can make sure she is in the voting booth come election day, there is no excuse for the rest of us.
Today we will elect a New Mayor (Good Riddance Mayor Bloomberg) – that is an important choice that will have real world consequences for all New Yorkers, so PLEASE go out and vote, get involved and stay involved!
In addition to electing these officials, registered voters will also vote on a series of amendment proposals that will affect YOU! The polls are open from 6AM-9PM, so find some time to get out there!
