The clock is ticking. Uptown, you now have your vey own community owned and administered book shop. The question becomes; will you support it, will you patronize it and ultimately will you keep it? Even though Word Up is tentatively scheduled to be around only for a month, things that are vital tend to acquire permanence and boy do we need this communal learning center. Uptown needs a place where the neighborhood can learn, love and live. Books, knowledge and reading truly are that fundamental. That is it, in a nutshell; use it or lose it.
The initial signs are promising though. What I saw on Friday, at the grand opening of Word Up, is a community that is alive, aware and active. A community that contrary to what some might say is ready, willing and able to determine its own destiny. No outside intervention is needed or requested. We are the change that we seek. The Uptown Renaissance is in full effect. Spread love it’s the Uptown way.Let’s make it happen – Word Up!
