It was a surreal experience. One moment we are on 207th street and Seaman Avenue, by the hand ball courts in the park, conversing with the good folks that put together the 40 Oz Bounce events, (a crowd of about a hundred from across the city had already gathered for the street soiree) and the next moment we are at the tail end of Dyckman Fields, having a damn good time with a crowd that had to be 400-500 people deep, if not more. The reason for the last minute venue switch was due to the Park Rangers kaboshing the whole notion of having an impromptu block party in Inwood Hill Park. To the credit of the 40 Oz Bounce cats, they were able to pull off a logistical coup despite the venue switch and regardless of the rain that was off and on the entire afternoon. The fact that they pulled this off using their extensive social media network and word of mouth, makes the event that more remarkable. Even with such a large crowd of young folks, no fights broke out whatsoever and a good vibe permeated the festivities. In fact, just as quickly as all the people converged on the location, when the event was over, they all seemed to disappear into thin air. The Uptown Collective squad was still at the park in the end, when no one was around, asking ourselves did this really happen.
