NYC Public Pools Open For Summer Season | Manhattan Times

By Gregg McQueen

The water’s waiting.

New York City’s public pools are open for the summer season, despite a shortage of lifeguards.

On June 28, NYC Parks opened 51 pools citywide that will remain open until Labor Day weekend.

Most pools will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. and again from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.

At Highbridge Pool in Washington Heights, local residents welcomed the chance to dive back into the water.

“We’re excited to come back here,” said Washington Heights resident Rudy Paulino as he swam with his daughter during a recent morning visit. “We’ve already been here a few times since they reopened. It’s a great way to cool off.”

“I come here almost every day in the summer,” added another swimmer named Steven. “I practically live here.”

Although the Olympic pool at Highbridge is open, its capacity has been limited due to a shortage of available lifeguards. Swimmers were kept to one section of the massive pool while several lifeguards observed.

City unveils plan to expand child care, early education | Bronx Free Press

By Gregg McQueen

Approximately 500,000 children under the age of 5 reside in New York City.

But there is only one available child care slot for every five infants in the city, according to the Mayor’s Office.

More than a village – it takes a city.

So explained Mayor Eric Adams as he released a blueprint to increase access to affordable childcare in New York City.

The city will make a $2 billion investment over the next four years in early child care, which includes funding to ensure that undocumented immigrant families have access to child care.

The plan would ensure services for more than 41,000 additional children in the city, Adams said.

“It used to take a village to raise a child, but these days, it takes a city,” he said.

Op-Led: Trump = Treason

By @led_black

Our democracy is in peril. The January 6 Committee hearings prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Trump was at the head of a vast conspiracy to foment a coup d’état and remain in power.

If Trump had not been stopped by the Secret Service from joining his personal shock troops marching on Capitol Hill, it could have been a bloodbath. Imagine what seeing Trump in their midst would have done to all those rabid and crazed insurrectionists. The loss of life and the consequences of such a brazen power grab would have been unimaginable.

We narrowly escaped the installment of a illegitimate, full authoritarian dictatorship on that fateful day but the cancer at the heart of this democracy is metastasizing. We remain in peril. If Trump and everyone that participated in this attempted coup is not held accountable it will spell the end of the American Experiment.

The coup continues apace and will most likely lead to electoral victory for the GOP this coming November, which will ultimately lead to Trump returning to power in 2024. God help us all.
