Posters are iconic by nature. Some revolutionize the spread of information. Some influence the rise and fall of entire political regimes. And others? Well, others we’re not so sure of yet. And so, I’d like to take the time out to invite UC readers on a tour – a magical journey through our very own iconic images. Yes, the epic Uptown club poster!
Here’s a breakdown of some of my current and all-time faves: (Enjoy at your own risk)
Ladies free before the Tsunami.
Greetings from the planet “C’mon Son!” where all the inhabitants wear wrinkly, grey suits and nobody looks at the camera during photos…
Two words. Zebra. F-ing Stripes!!!
Went just to see this guy’s sweater, live. It absolutely changed my life.
“Hide yo kids, hide yo wife!”
Lonely girl fondling herself in the corner. Check. Creepy dudes wrestling each other in the corner. Check. No way this party wasn’t fun!
To keep checking The Uptown Collective.

January 31, 2011 at 4:20 pmUptown is being drowned by these posters and flyers, especially around 181st Street -__- Do you really think they’re effective marketing tools?

February 1, 2011 at 10:57 pmGreat point. Definitely seems like the old promoter’s fallacy of quantity over quality. Sure, these posters garner attention (eyesore and all), but I’m just not convinced that they attract any substantial business from patrons that don’t ALREADY frequent those venues. INEFFECTIVE marketing? Absolutely.

February 2, 2011 at 11:16 amThe marketing is effective, but the target is not the passersby. It’s for the other people in the business who look at the poster like a visual resume; this group (and these DJs) worked at this club on such-and-such a date. That’s my opinion.

February 2, 2011 at 2:13 pmVery interesting point. Perhaps we’ve been looking at this marketing thing all wrong! I guess it’ll also be interesting to ask for a DJ’s resume from now on. “One second, let me show you my posters.” Haha.
