Love and action.
This past Wed., Apr. 10th was billed as a day devoted to both, as part of a nationwide wave of protest centered on immigration reform.
Hundreds of thousands of immigrant rights advocates gathered in Washington D.C. and all throughout the country to call on legislators to act on immigration reform.
In northern Manhattan, approximately 50 local residents, representatives of local non-profit and advocacy organizations and elected officials joined together at McKenna Square Park in solidarity.
Marino Morban, who immigrated to the United States from the Dominican Republic in 1996, was present.
“It is a key moment for immigration reform,” said Morban. “We have already spent many years waiting for this.”
Leydi Bautista, an immigrant from Puebla, Mexico, and a member of the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, agreed.
“Most of my friends and family are undocumented,” she said. “It’s time for a change.”
