Due to the fact that the UC has over 2 years of super awesome content, picking the Throwback Thursdays post is pretty difficult. Then it hit me, my good friend and author of When Tito Loved Clara, Jon Michaud, has a birthday today. This post would serve the dual role of highlighting our extensive collection of Jon Michaud related posts as well as a quasi e-card.
I first came across Jon’s novel in early 2011 and, no lie – I could not put it down. Jon refers to When Tito Loved Clara as a love letter to his Dominican wife and Inwood and that notion really permeates the novel. The book paints a picture of Dominicans and Uptown that is vivid, colorful and most importantly, real. If you’re from Uptown or you’re Dominican or Latino, you know these characters.
Jon was kind enough to be the first author to kick off the inaugural Led Black Book Club event at Apt 78 (4447 Broadway) in June 11th, 2011. Jon was also one of the subjects of Mike Fitelson’s North Manhattan As Muse photo exhibit and has gone out of his way to make himself available to the community. Show Jon some love and buy the book. You will thank me later. By the way, the book made Barnes & Noble’s 2011′s best reading list.
