Instead of planning their Thanksgiving festivities John Collado’s loved ones are mourning his tragic death at the hands of police during a botched undercover arrest in early September.
Buoyed by the memory of this thoroughly decent man, the family and friends of John Collado are determined to get justice and honor and commemorate his life.
To that end they led a peaceful march this past Saturday from Dyckman Street and Post Ave to the 34th Precinct. Their message was clear; they want to ensure that a thorough investigation is performed and that the people responsible for their loss do not go punished.
A tearful Amy Collado, the 15 year-old daughter of John Collado said, “My dad was the best dad in the world. It’ so wrong that he was taken away from us like this, I wanted him to see me graduate. I wanted him to walk me down the aisle when I got married. And I wanted my dad to see his grand kids. The NYPD has put so much hatred in my life that I didn’t need.”
Adding, “I’m still traumatized about my father being shot to death. I miss him more and more as each day passes. I want justice for my father. That’s all.”
John Collado Jr., 21, the eldest son of the slain John Collado said, “I’m still very upset and angry that the NYPD officer that murdered my dad is still working behind his desk. The cops have still not acknowledged that they did something really wrong that day. There is no justice!”
The family and their supporters remain steadfast in their commitment to ensure that justice is done. An innocent man died that night. A man, that was the backbone of a family. Nothing will him bring him back but an exhaustive investigation must be performed. The family, the neighborhood and yes, John Collado, deserve that much.
