When you are within 9 feet of the vehicle, the 2016 Lincoln MKX initiates the Lincoln Embrace with a visual orchestra of sequential lighting replete with a “welcome mat” that is projected from the folded mirrors. This is luxury redefined. Luxury that resonates!
Once you enter the automobile, the almost intoxicating opulence of high-end materials is a veritable feast for the senses. The Thoroughbred Black Label interior experience is a multi-sensual symphony of Venetian leather, Chilean Maple, plush Alcantara and exacting craftsmanship. The noise of the outside world is kept at bay by an active noise control system that dynamically monitors the interior’s sound profile to maintain an ideal cabin environment.
Sexiness and sleekness aside, does the 2016 Lincoln MKX have the toughness and temerity to deal with the demands of Uptown Manhattan driving? The answer to that question is a resounding YES. Press start and the powerful 3.7-liter V6 engine quietly but resolutely comes to life and makes that query a moot point.
Before you take off though, it is a must that you take in the next-generation Revel audio system that in the Black Label Thoroughbred edition I had boasted 19 speakers perfectly calibrated to produce rich, full bodied sound that is like nothing you have ever experienced before. This is award-winning, top-of-the-line home theater audio in your car.
Whatever the traffic conditions, the Lincoln MKX is more than up to the challenge. The voice-activated Navigation System delivers way more that directions. The built-in Sirius XM Traffic provides real-time traffic data with incident information and alternate route guidance and mapping to get you out of that soul-deadening gridlock. In those instances when you simply cannot avoid traffic the multi-contour front seats come equipped with a massaging system that will replenish and rejuvenate while you drive. In stop-and-go traffic, the Lincoln MKX has the auto-hold feature, which relieves the driver from having to keep your foot on the brake. This feature is a lifesaver in the sometimes grinding and inescapable NYC traffic.
Once you reach your destination, the Lincoln MKX will park itself. That’s right, the available 12-sensor ultrasonic sensing system will get you in that parking spot, parallel or perpendicular. If you so choose to do it yourself, the 360-degree camera system will make even the toughest parking predicament a breeze.
Lincoln has always been a part of the Uptown automotive landscape. For as far as I can remember, Lincoln was the car of the choice for the myriad of cab companies that plied their trade Uptown. It is refreshing to know, that Lincoln, an iconic American brand, continues to redefine, and push the boundaries, of the meaning of luxury. It was with wispy, almost tearful regret, that I returned my Lincoln MKX that I had lovingly nicknamed Bella. I still think about her.
