5 years ago, September 19th 2008 to be exact, my wife, Eileen Z. Fuentes, the mother of our 3 daughters, was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer.
We went from a normal, if hectic, life, to one that was a living nightmare. My wife had the first surgery to remove the tumor within weeks and then she elected to remove both breasts as a precautionary method.
Once she began chemo, I had to preemptively shave her once long hair as it already had begun to fall out in chunks. On December 16th 2008 her father, with whom she had a troubled relationship with, passed away. Within a month, doctors found a blood clot in her heart that may have been caused by the experimental medicine she had been taking. The treatment included an injection to her abdomen twice daily.
On February 20th, her younger brother also passed away. She still had not even completed her treatment.
That was then.
Today, Eileen is a force to be reckoned with. She is a blogger, a writer, a healer and a wellness dynamo. The world is starting to take notice. The latest issue of Latina Magazine, which hits newsstands today, features a great profile of her written by the talented Amaris Castillo.
