Nutcracker Awareness Day - Le Cheile

It’s that time of year again folks, time to take a look at the Top 10 Posts of the year. So without further ado, let’s get right into it.

#10 – Op-Led: I am Rocking with Barack Obama

Barack Obama - Obey

Being that it was an election year, it makes sense that my heart-felt ode to President Barack Obama was such a popular post. For those that don’t know, Washington Heights and Inwood is Obama territory. As reported by many news outlets, Dominicans are the most fervent supporters of President Barack Obama among all other Latinos.

 #9 – Op-Led: 2016 – Mitt Romney’s America

Mitt Romney - Guy Juke

Conversely, my look at a potential Mitt Romney presidency created quite a stir. This post was originally supposed to run in the Huffington Post but they felt it was a bit much. I really can’t blame them.

My review of the absolutely incredible The Hamilton Mixtape, a hip-hop song cycle about the life and death of Alexander Hamilton that was performed at Lincoln Center by hood hero Lin-Manuel Miranda has remained a site favorite for quite some time now. Miranda first performed part of The Hamilton Mixtape for President Obama at the White House. From the Heights to the White House, you gotta love it!

#7 – Historic Inwood: “Goodbye to Glocamorra” (1968)

This video is quite simply amazing. Created for Irish Television in 1968, the video captures the Irish Inwood of yesteryear and is downright engrossing. If you haven’t seen it, watch it RIGHT now.

#6 – The Washington Heights Riots of 1992 Remembered – Part 1

Washington Heights Riots of 1992

20 years ago the little known Washington Heights Riots went down, I was just a kid at the time and thought it would be a good idea to take pictures for posterity. By the way, that is a much-skinnier version of me in the white shirt.

#5 – The Fire was Ugly, this is Beautiful

The 207th Street Fire

2012 began with a massive fire that destroyed a huge chunk of 207th street and Broadway. The destruction and devastation was met by neighborly love. This post by Gloria Pazmiño truly deserves to be in the top 10.

#4 – Open for Business: La Marina

La Marina

Since it’s opening in the summer of 2012, the swank and sophisticated La Marina (248 Dyckman) has been the talk of the town and of the entire world for that matter.

#3 – Uptown Car Love: The 2013 Ford Fusion

The 2013 Ford Fusion

This post on the 2013 Ford Fusion has generated a ton of traffic. In my opinion, the reason has to be the awesome pictures by the one and only Paul Lomax.

#2 – MTV’s ‘Washington Heights’ – The Trailer

MTV's Washington Heights

The entire neighborhood and beyond is talking about MTV’s newest docu-series, Washington Heights. I had the privilege of getting a sneak peak of the first 2 episodes and I give it a big thumps up. Washington Heights is Uptown Collective certified!

#1 – The Nutcracker

The #1 post for the last 3 years running is my post on the Nutcracker. This story is what started my partnership with Jon Ullman on making the definitive documentary on the Nutcracker and Washington Heights. Stay tuned for a sneak peak of the official trailer some time in the New Year.
