Help Word Up Community Bookshop/Librería Comunitaria move to a permanent location.
Word Up Community Bookshop—the only 100% volunteer-powered, community bookshop and arts space in Washington Heights, New York City—needs your help to remain a viable community resource for our neighbors. After more than a year serving Northern Manhattan, our month-to-month lease at 4157 Broadway was terminated August 31, 2012. Help us open a new location, so we can continue fostering a positive environment for literacy, arts, and education in Northern Manhattan.
Word Up is a project of Seven Stories Institute, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, so your donation is tax-deductible.
Why?
It’s simple: our neighborhood—and every neighborhood—needs space to share and create, where people of all backgrounds, ages, and abilities can participate in their community. Word Up has been that space for so many residents of Northern Manhattan and visitors from all over the place. It is truly a space made for the community, by the community.
Our goal is to raise $60,000+ so we can continue the important work of promoting literacy, the arts, and social awareness in one of the most densely populated districts in Manhattan, and hopefully inspire similar projects all over New York City, the United States, and the world.
