The inaugural Led Black Book Club event featuring Jon Michaud at Apt 78 was a rousing success. On a dreary Saturday afternoon, we had an incredible turnout to discuss literature in Washington Heights. If that is not evidence of the seismic shift taking place Uptown, I don’t know what is.
I started this book club to share the books that I was reading and that I felt were important with my community. I am a lover and a champion of books. I am a firm believer that books can change your life. For me, books are magical, oftentimes; the books you need to read at a particular point in your life just seem to materialize.
Since I was kid, growing up right up the hill from where the event was held, books were a way for me to expand my horizons. So even though we were of limited means, books gave me access to a whole word of information and insights. My library card was my passport. So for me, having a successful first event of this magnitude is especially sweet. I want to thank Jon Michaud for being so gracious with his time and for sharing so selflessly with us. I could not have picked a better novel or a better author for our first function. I want to also thank the always accommodating Jose Morales for allowing us to use the magnificent Apt 78 for our event. Lastly, I want to thank everyone that came out to support our inaugural meeting. Thank you for taking part in the vital, candid and lively discussion of this wonderful novel.
