You can now remove a Supper Club from the list of things missing from the Uptown Scene. That’s right, Chef Lester Almanzar Paiewonsky decided to create the Upper Club to fill that gaping void. Lester grew up in Santiago, DR, basically in a kitchen, helping his mom run a catering business from the back of the house. That early foundation led to a life long love of food and cooking. Mr. Paiewonsky studied the culinary arts in Barcelona, Spain and from there was off to London to get some hands on training in various restaurants including Viajante, which has 1 Michelin Star, under Nuno Mendes. It was the thriving Supper Club scene in London that inspired Lester to start one here.
The spots for the 2 events happening next week, July 15th & July 16th, are extremely limited so if you are interested make sure you jump on it. By the way, the Upper Club also has a blog but be warned do not go onto the site on an empty stomach as you will be sorry. The food looks that good. I have it from a close associate, Jason Devereaux from Nostlygia, that the food is actually better than it looks.
The Upper Club will be serving a delicious four-course meal (with veggie options for those that request it in advance). The menu will be mainly based on local and seasonal produce from Greenmarkets NYC, especially our local Inwood Greenmarket. Here is the menu:
Goat’s Cheese Salad
Beets
Radish
Pea shoots
••
Scallops
Potato
Tomato
Creme Fraiche
(veggie option available upon request)
••
Hudson Valley Duck Breast
Sour Cherry
Squash
(veggie option available upon request)
••
Frozen Surprises
•
Coffee and Petit Fours
Minimum donation will be $60 per person and includes a pre-dinner cocktail. The rest of the meal is BYOB
Gratuities not included but welcome.
Please be sure to let them know of any dietary restrictions, allergies or intolerances in advance so they can accommodate you.
