The Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center is hosting an event marking the 46th Anniversary of the assassination of Human Rights Activist Malcolm X, El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz. The event, commemorating his life and work, will take place February 21, 2011, from 6pm to 8pm and is open to the public. Malcolm X, a courageous advocate for the rights of African Americans, Pan Africans, and all oppressed peoples, was assassinated on February 21, 1965. His message of speaking truth to power lives on to this very day and can be seen on the streets of Cairo in Egypt and elsewhere throughout the world. This event will celebrate the life and enduring legacy of a champion of Human Rights and Social Justice.
Some of the featured performances will include: spoken word, readings and a musical performance by singer Karen Taylor. The event will be held at The Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center, Broadway and 165th Street in Washington Heights.
