Q. What are some of the things you love about living Uptown?
I love the liveliness that runs through these streets. On every corner there’s something going on: someone selling pastelitos, frío fríos, or even just the local pharmacist. But what I love most about Uptown is the hustle. Everyone’s grinding up here.
Q. What do you like about shooting Uptown?
I like capturing real moments with the everyday people that I see. I love shooting abstract images. There’s so much subtle beauty in the things people usually overlook. My eye naturally focuses on those things.
Q. How would you describe yourself as an artist?
My foundation has and always will be photography. There’s nothing else in the world that I’m more passionate about and devoted to than telling a story with a single image. That said, I enjoy branching out into other mediums: cinematography, graphic design, painting, and clothing design. Ultimately, I don’t want to be known for doing just one thing. I’m not just going for the jack-of-all-trades title, but master of all.
Q. Is there anything else you would like our audience to know about you or your work?
My goal is to put Uptown on the map. It’s such a fertile neighborhood that I know it’s going to glow in no time. I also think it’s important for us uptown artist to come together and collaborate. Visit me at whrphotography.com, and don’t hesitate to get in touch.
