I had the honor of attending the Song of Silence Art reception recently at the Russ Berrie Medical Science Pavillion (1150 St. Nicholas Ave at 168th Street). The event was hosted by ADAVA (Alliance of Dominican American Visual Artists) and the Office of Government and Community Affairs of Columbia University. Not only did we feast on our eyes on truly thought provoking artwork but we were also treated to some amazing, old school Dominican poetry performances, what Junot Diáz refers to as declarando. The artwork will be on display at the Russ Berrie Medical Science Paviliion until January 13th 2011, stop by and check it out.
