Okay, so don’t say I didn’t give you advance warning. You have until September 7th to see Groana Melendez’s “Family Work Series” at the New York Public Library’s Aguilar Branch (174 E. 110 Street). One look at her site, www.groanamelendez.com, will prove that Groana Melendez’s photography is the real deal. Her pictures are arresting. Your eyes are forced to linger on the series of photographs of family members taken in Washington Heights and Dominican Republic. The photos are simultaneously familiar, distant and regal. These are proud people telling their story, silently and stoically, through the lens of this extraordinary artist. Don’t miss out.
