181st Street was exponentially more crowded than usual this weekend, due to the Juan Pablo Duarte Festival that took place this Sunday, 11 am to 6 pm, on St. Nicholas Avenue, between 181st and 188th Streets. Even though the heat was a bit oppressive, I had a great time; copped a Lucho Gatica bootleg CD for my mom, ate some awesome food and bumped into new and old friends. I also was fortunate to come across the Santo Domingo Invita 3 DVD set chronicling the 35 years of that groundbreaking show. In addition, I had the pleasure of speaking with two of the candidates for New York State Assembly, Guillermo Linares and Gabriela Rosa.
