That’s right people; the New York Times is reporting that our very own United Palace Theater (175th Street and Broadway) is in the running for next year’s Tony Awards. Even though it is far from a shoe-in, the mere fact that it is being considered should make the folks of Uptown quite proud. The United Palace Theatre was the brainchild of Thomas W. Lamb who was the preeminent theater architect for the first half of the 20th century. The United Palace was Mr. Lamb’s final work and features Neo-Classical Cambodian, Hindu, Mayan and Moorish architectural flourishes. Make sure to check out the riveting Channel Thirteen clip on our neighborhood icon.
