Online campaign aids mother seeking sanctuary | Manhattan Times

An online crowd-funding campaign has been launched to help pay legal fees for Amanda Morales-Guerra, the Guatemalan immigrant seeking refuge from deportation in a Washington Heights church.

Morales-Guerra and her three young children took sanctuary at Holyrood Church on August 17 after being told by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials that she would be deported back to her native Guatemala, which she fled in 2004.

Holyrood officials have joined with the New Sanctuary Coalition to protect her.

New Sanctuary Coalition’s new crowdsourcing page seeks to raise $50,000 to assist legal case for Morales-Guerra and other immigrants targeted for deportation. The campaign raised over $5,000 in the first few days.
