‘Hamilton’ star Lin-Manuel Miranda returns to the White House and freestyles with an assist from Obama | Washington Post

Lin-Manuel Miranda doesn’t fit neatly into any one category. The composer, rapper, playwright and actor has won multiple Tony, Grammy and Obie Awards. He’s a history nerd and an avid reader, the type to pick up a thousand-page biography and then turn it into a musical. A musical, artistic and linguistic genius — Miranda was awarded the “Genius Grant” from the MacArthur Foundation in 2015 — and is now one of the few people to reprise a White House performance.

Oh, and on top of that, he just freestyle rapped in the Rose Garden with President Obama.

It was a “full circle moment” for the Obamas and Miranda. In the spring of 2009, fresh off Tony and Grammy Award wins for his hit musical “In the Heights,” the multi-talented and then shorter-haired Lin-Manuel Miranda donned a suit and arrived at the White House Evening of Poetry, Music, and the Spoken Word.
