indiegogo Spotlight: Help Restore the Morris-Jumel Mansion

Manhattan’s oldest house needs your help!

Any home needs some TLC, but a 248-year-old house needs some extra care!

Need:

With your help we will raise $40,000 over the next 40 days to restore the exterior of the building. Not only would we like the Mansion to appear as welcoming as possible, but external restorations minimize the amount of interior restoration to be done later and help preserve the mansion for years of future use.

History:

Perched on the second highest point of the isle of Manhattan, borough’s oldest residence, the Morris-Jumel Mansion, serves as an important crossroads between the past in the present.

The Mansion boasts an impressive pedigree. It not only served as residence of two prominent New York families, but also as George Washington’s headquarters for a brief time during the Revolutionary War and, for a short while, as the home of founding father and third Vice President of the United States, Aaron Burr. The house was converted into a Museum in 1904 and has been in the service of the public ever since.
