El Museo’s Bienal: The (S) Files 2011 is El Museo del Barrio’s sixth biennial of the most innovative, cutting-edge art created by Latino, Caribbean, and Latin American artists currently working in the greater New York area. This year’s edition spreads all over the city, showcasing a record 75 emerging artists in seven different venues.

The Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance (NoMAA) is pleased to participate in The (S) Files 2011 as one of El Museo’s venues, featuring Northern Manhattan artists. This exhibition focuses more specifically on local graffiti writers and their newer “canvases,” focusing on artists of various generations and their contemporary contributions to street aesthetics. Their art explores the re-use of objects including street signs, cardboard, objects caught in the ocean, and plastic bags. An ephemeral installation extends the exhibition into a park in Northern Manhattan.

Featuring: Feegz / Carlos Jesús Martinez Dominguez, Edwin González-Ojeda, J. Manuel Mansylla (in Northern Manhattan park), MARE139/Carlos Rodriguez, Antonia A. Perez, TOO FLY/Maria Castillo, Rider Ureña

Curated by Elvis Fuentes, Rocío Aranda-Alvarado, and Trinidad Fombella, El Museo del Barrio; and guest curator Juanita Bermúdez, Biennial of the Central American Isthmus

Opening: Tuesday, September 13, 6-8pm
Artist Talk: Monday, October 3, 6:30-8:30pm (Part of NYC Latin Media & Entertainment Week)
