American Airlines and the Ford Foundation; Produced by Revive Da Live

Harlem Stage’s 2011 FREE outdoor community concert, produced in partnership with Revive Da Live and featuring musician/DJ/composer Miguel Atwood-Ferguson with his world-class contemporary ensemble, as well as special guests Zap Mama, Jose James, Pharoahe Monch and more is taking place this Saturday.

Atwood-Ferguson’s performance embraces classic and contemporary jazz, hip-hop, and R&B, and features original music, covers of unreleased tracks from his acclaimed EP “Suite for Ma Dukes” in tribute to late producer J Dilla, and a salute the late blues artist and poet Gil Scott-Heron.

Guest performers include world music group Zap Mama, jazz vocalist Jose James, and hip-hop artist/emcee Pharoahe Monch. Singer/rapper Taylor McFerrin opens; J. Period and The Mixtape Assassin are the evening’s DJs.

Atwood-Ferguson pushes forward the contemporary classical music genre, grounding it in African-American musical traditions, hip-hop and jazz. Acclaimed as “fresh, relevant, and innovative,” Atwood-Ferguson has performed with dozens of the industry’s hottest musicians, from Shakira to Wyclef Jean and Stevie Wonder.
