THE Wahi/Inwood Brunch & Supper Club

BY Claudio E. Cabrera

This past Friday, the Wahi/Inwood Brunch & Supper Club came together for its October outing. Usually, we visit neighborhood eateries for Brunch or Supper, but this time, we decided to go outside the neighborhood. We didn’t go too far though as we visited the popular Bronx Alehouse on 238th and Broadway.

In case you didn’t know, I launched a Wahi/Inwood Brunch & Supper Club in July 2009 because I wanted to bring all the different faces of our neighborhood together. I felt there was a divide and there needed to be something done to help eliminate that. While that divide still exists, I feel like this club has managed to bring a lot of people in the neighborhood together who would have never met/or spoken to each other before. Many individuals who have lived here all their lives – and others who have recently moved here – and love the neighborhood.

Currently, we meet once a month and alternate between brunch and supper. We usually meet for supper on Friday nights around 7:30, and brunch on Sunday mornings around 11. Usual outings consist of 10-14 people.

Our club is mostly run through Facebook; you can search “Wahi/Inwood Brunch& Supper Club” and join through there. We almost have 200 members and have a pretty fun, active group page. We also have an email list that you can join if you want to be updated on our monthly dining trips if you don’t have Facebook.

Lastly, I want to thank everyone for continuing to support the club. It really means a lot to me that there are so many people in the neighborhood – who are open to meetings others – and learning from them. Without any of you, this would not be possible.
